Identity Theft - Dont Be Tricked This Halloween
Protect Yourself from the Horror of Identity TheftIdentity Theft is a crime in which someone steals your personal information, such as your social security number or credit card numbers, and use it for their own personal gain.
It can take years to clear up the damages from Identity Theft.
This Halloween, please remember the following tips to prevent Identity Theft from happening to you:
Don’t carry your Social Security Card with youRequest to have your social security number removed from your license, checks, healthcare cards, etc.
Shred all papers with sensitive informationSign all credit cards with your signature as well as “see ID”Never leave ATM receipts behindDon’t open emails, especially with attachments if you are not sure who the sender is.
Don’t provide personal information over the phone if you didn’t originate the call.
Never provide personal information in response to an email request; call the source directly to find out if it is a legitimate request or a "phishing" expedition.
Monitor your bank and credit statements thoroughly and report any discrepancies immediately.
This Halloween, don’t let someone “Trick” you into stealing your Identity.
